Growing Up
I wrote the words "Forever, forever", put it in a bottle.
Set it out to sea,
Watched it bobble out far.
A promise is a promise,
As immovable as my bespectacled eyes can perceive.
But the tides have had
A mind of their own.
Brought my bottle to a distant shore,
Crashed it on a little rock.
And forever is as forever fades.
At the next coming of the tide
I hold yet another bottle.
I wrote the words "One day more",
Put it in the bottle.
And I placed the bottle in my pocket.
And so that bottle stands now,
On my study desk.
"One day more", it says.
Everyday's prayer,
Is just, for One Day More.
And till a Forever that never fades,
Descends upon this world with the legendary Pearly Gates,
Until the day of glory,
Until the day of universal ecstasy,
One Day More...
